Production comeback for Dornier 328 in Leipzig
After an intensive site selection process for the revival of the Dornier 328 aircraft production, the Sierra Nevada Corporation (USA) has decided in favour of Germany. In future, the newly founded subsidiary DRA GmbH will produce a passenger aircraft for short-haul flights at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Up to 250 jobs will be there. The new aircraft type is to be developed in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. In Germany, a total of approx. 400 million euros will be invested. This is the first time since the end of aircraft construction in the GDR that such a production facility will be established up in Eastern Germany.
