German-Chinese research institute opens in Nanjing
The Erfurt-based "CiS Institut für Mikrosensorik" (CiS Institute for Microsensors), which is specialized in application-oriented research and development of silicon-based sensors, is one of the founding partners of the newly opened "German-Chinese MEMS Smart Sensor Institute" in Nanjing, China. The institute’s focus will be on the development of innovative sensors on the basis of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). For instance, MEMS are used in automobile manufacturing as well as for microelectronic and industrial applications.
By engaging in the MEMS Smart Sensor Institute, CiS aims to tap the Chinese market, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence and Smart Cities. Since German reunification, Thuringia has successfully established strong competences in the field of sensor technology.
