With around 60 guests, Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) and its partners explored “ICT Cluster Opportunities in Eastern Germany” during an exclusive investor event at The Leela Palace Hotel in Bangalore on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

The new federal states of Germany have developed into an ICT hotspot with a number of powerful industry clusters connecting players from industry, research and academia. The German ICT market is the second largest in Europe. Industrie 4.0 and the digitalization of the economy are important market drivers. Sustainable, high growth rates are expected for Industrie 4.0 in Germany, which also provides promising business opportunities for Indian companies.

We were honored that the German Consul General in Bangalore, Margit Hellwig-Bötte, opened our event. Dr. Jürgen Friedrich, CEO, GTAI, also welcomed the guests and emphasized Indo-German business relations and the attractiveness of the new federal states as business locations.

Afterwards, Asha-Maria Sharma, Senior Manager Investor Consulting, GTAI, outlined trends and business opportunities in the field of Industrie 4.0 in Germany in more detail. Moreover, she showcased how GTAI can support foreign companies in starting their business in Germany.

With the example of Saxony’s strong and innovative microelectronics industry, the leading-edge position of Eastern Germany in the field of ICT was highlighted in the subsequent presentation by Dr. Peter Homilius (Saxony Economic Development Corporation). This was underpinned by Gitta Haupold, who introduced the Silicon Saxony network as a very active Eastern German ICT network with a strong international focus.

Last but not least, Venki Venkataraman, Vice President (Engineering) at Tismo Technology Solutions, explained why his company had decided to open an own office in Germany.

During the following dinner, the guests intensively networked with our speakers, the representatives of our partners, including Silicon Saxony and the IT Cluster of Central Germany, to discuss current trends in the industry in Germany and India and explore business opportunities.
