Eastern Germany – The Innovative Healthcare Location
Investment Opportunities for Danish Companies
Germany Trade & Invest and the Dansk-Tysk Handelskammer organized an exclusive investor seminar in Copenhagen on May 05, 2015. The event was part of a roadshow with another event in Stockholm on May 07.
After welcome addresses by Hans von Schroeder, Counsellor, German Embassy Copenhagen, and Reiner Perau, CEO, Dansk-Tysk Handelskammer, Dr. Marcus Schmidt, Director Chemicals & Healthcare, Germany Trade & Invest, gave valuable insights into the German healthcare market. Denmark’s spatial proximity to Europe’s biggest market, Germany, makes the New Federal States an attractive location for Danish investors. With a healthcare expenditure of more than EUR 300 billion (11,3% of GDP) and a growth rate of 3.6 % p.a., the healthcare sector is one of Germany's largest growth markets. Dr. Schmidt particularly highlighted the demographic change as a business driver and digital market opportunities for Danish companies in Germany. Afterwards, two examples of outstanding research at Eastern German universities were presented by Prof. Dr. Georg Rose, Chair for Healthcare Telematics & Medical Engineering at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg ("Forschungscampus STIMULATE" & Telemedicine) and Prof. Dr. Dr. Hans-Robert Metelmann, Clinical Director, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery / Plastic Surgery, University of Greifswald (Cold Plasma Tech). Prof. Metelmann also gave an overview on the „ScanBalt Health Region" cluster in the Baltic Sea Region.
The Danish perspective was presented by Healthcare DENMARK's CEO, Hans Erik Henriksen, who talked about the Danish e-health and telehealth strategy. Finally, Carsten Nørrevang Mogensen, Finance Director, 3Shape A/S, explained why his company had decided to expand to the German market.
The speakers' presentations can be found under "AGENDA".
During the following networking reception, guests, speakers and representives of Germany Trade & Invest and the new federal states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia engaged in fruitful discussions.
