Verkehrsinfrastruktur Thüringen

Highways

  • Thuringia is a central traffic hub in Germany and Europe: the A4 East-West route (Paris - Frankfurt - Dresden - Prague) and the A9 North-South route (Munich-Berlin) both intersect in Thuringia.
  • The A 71 / A 73 gives the region access to Southern Germany (Munich, Stuttgart). The newly built A 38 connects the North of Thuringia to the Rhine and Ruhr urban centers and to the Halle/ Leipzig area.

Railroad Systems

  • Thuringia has Germany's densest railway network relative to its size and number of inhabitants. Around 1,500 km is actively used and still being improved and expanded. Thuringia is deeply integrated into the ultra-high-speed IntercityExpress and high speed Intercity rail system. Erfurt, the state capital, is less than two hours away from Frankfurt/Main and Berlin. In fact, Erfurt's main train station is poised to become a key node in the IntercityExpress (ICE) system after the completion of the high-speed Nuremberg-Erfurt line and the new Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle line. Every hour, four ICE trains will roll into Erfurt from every direction. Trips to Munich will only take two-and-a-half hours, while voyages to Berlin will be over in an hour and forty-five minutes. Local express trains effectively connect every corner of Thuringia to the Erfurt ICE train station and railway nodes in neighboring states.

Air Transportation

  • There are 19 licensed civilian airfields in addition to the international Erfurt-Weimar-Airport.
  • Europe's second largest airport, Frankfurt/Main, is around 2 hours away from Erfurt.
