On November 1, 2016, Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), in cooperation with the German Trade Office Taipei, was pleased to welcome Taiwanese company representatives to our investor conference on “Microelectronics and ICT Cluster Opportunities in Eastern Germany” in Hsinchu. The event took place in the framework of a Silicon Saxony delegation trip to Taiwan. More than 300 manufacturers, suppliers, research institutes, universities and public institutions from the micro- and nanoelectronics, smart system, application and energy system industries in Saxony (eastern Germany) have joined the cluster Silicon Saxony – Europe’s most successful industry network in this field.

The conference was opened by Martin Eberts, Director General, German Institute Taipei, and Jong-Chin Shen, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Afterwards, we were honored to listen to the keynote of PSts Iris Gleicke, Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, who was followed by Dr. Jürgen Friedrich, CEO, GTAI.

The second part of the event consisted of two panel discussions: After their individual introductory presentations, the speakers gathered at the stage for a round of questions. In the first panel chaired by Jan Jovy, General Manager of DEinternational Taiwan Ltd., Max Milbredt, Manager Electronics, GTAI, Dr. Konrad Crämer, Senior Manager Inward Investment, Saxony Economic Development Corporation, and Jimmy Chu, Chairman, Fair Friend Group, talked about opportunities for Taiwanese companies in eastern Germany.

Subsequently, key enabling technologies from Silicon Saxony were discussed by Heinz Martin Esser, President of Silicon Saxony and General Manager at Fabmatics GmbH, Martin Landgraf, Program Coordinator, Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (IPMS) and C.J. Chen, Director, Hermes Epitek-Corporation. Dr. James Liang, Chief Business Officer at ITRI, led through the discussion.
