Event Review: Bioeconomy Cluster Opportunities in Eastern Germany

As part of the BioEconomy business delegation trip to Finland, an investor event was held for Finnish investors and potential partners at the Klaus K Hotel in Helsinki on October 12. The participants received first-hand information about the location advantages in Eastern Germany and could find out more about the region’s innovative bio-based economy sector and the BioEconomy cluster in particular.

Ms. Tanja Knittler, Head of Economic and Cultural Section at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Helsinki, as well as Dr. Jan Feller, Deputy Managing Director of the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, opened the investor conference and welcomed the audience.

Then Mr. Peter Alltschekow, Managing Director Eastern Germany at Germany Trade & Invest presented an overview of the current market trends of Eastern Germany. Afterwards Ms. Dorrit Zischkale, Senior Manager Wood, Paper, Packaging at the IMG Investment and Marketing Corporation gave insights into the attractive investment opportunities the region of Saxony-Anhalt has to offer. Mr. Markus Blomquist, CEO of FP Pigments GmbH, provided valuable information on FP Pigments’ investment in Leuna, Germany.

After a short networking break, the investor event focused on expert knowhow about the bio-based economy, starting with an overview of the German Bioeconomy Strategy presented by Dr. Thorsten Bug, Senior Manager Chemicals at Germany Trade & Invest. Mr. Horst Mosler, CEO of BCM BioEconomy Cluster Management GmbH, continued by introducing the activities of BioEconomy in Central Germany. Chairman of BioEconomy, Prof. Dr. Matthias Zscheile, drew an even more detailed picture by dismantling the well-known value chain of different industries in regard to wood-based materials.

Dr. Christine Roßberg, Project Leader, gave a short overview of the research projects and related progress at the Fraunhofer Center for Chemical Biotechnological Processes CBP. Dr. Peter Schroeder, Chairman of Green Sugar GmbH, concluded the event by introducing his company and exemplified the advantages of a membership in the BioEconomy cluster.
